About Us
Chapter History
The Nashville Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter (NMAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated was chartered on June 28, 1973, by twelve visionary Sorors committed to the ideals of scholarship, sisterhood, service, and social action. The chartering members were:

Freda Grimes, Chippy Greer, Janet Boone, June Tunstall, Florita Jamison, Jaehneth Ewell, Loretta Gilmore, Muriel Espy, Lynn Station, Margaret Thompson, Gwen Timberlake, and Eva Harris.

In March 1974, fourteen women—known affectionately as “The Ever-So-Clean Fourteen”—were initiated as the first line of the chapter, further strengthening its foundation and commitment to excellence. They were:

Bernadette Sherman, Nedra Starling, Clovia Wray, Lasaundra Watson, Rose Horn, Jacquelyn Horn, Gail Charleston, Sadye Conners, Shirlene Williams, Linda Hawkins, Elmertha Burton, Dolly McKissack, Judith Newbern-Presley, and Allene Young.

From its inception, the Nashville Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter has worked deliberately to advance the Five-Point Programmatic Thrust established by Grand Chapter. Remaining steadfast to its founding vision and purpose, the chapter has delivered impactful programming aligned with:

Through sustained partnerships and collaborative efforts, NMAC serves the City of Nashville and the counties of Davidson, Robertson, Sumner, Williamson, Maury, and Wilson. Over the years, the chapter has implemented a wide range of signature programs, including Literary Jazz Café; Feed the Homeless initiatives; Taking Back Our Future Leaders; Authors on Tour; Voter Registration and Awareness activities; Little Miss Delta and Jabberwock; Project SMART; Delta GEMS; Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy; EMBODI; Rhapsody in Red Scholarship Gala and Community Impact Awards; Nashville Heart Walk participation; Breast Cancer Awareness initiatives; Delta Days at the Capitol (DDAC–Tennessee); the Alice Outlaw Scholarship; and scholarship opportunities for high school and non-traditional students.
Members of the Nashville Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter have rendered distinguished service to Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated at the local, state, regional, national, and international levels. Their professional expertise, leadership, and dedication continue to support the mission of the Sorority and advance the vision set forth by the Founders and Grand Chapter.
Today, NMAC is a chapter of more than 300 intergenerational members, recognized for excellence in programming and community impact globally, and remains steadfast in its commitment to public service, civic engagement, and the continued uplift of the communities it serves.
